The winter storm that hit Texas last month brought freezing temperatures and record snowfall to the state. As a result, more than 4.5 million homes and businesses lost power, some for several days or longer.
Together, these harsh conditions led to food shortages across the state. Feeding Texas, the largest hunger-relief organization in Texas, was especially well suited to respond to the crisis.
Over the last 25 years, the non-profit has worked to ensure all Texans have access to nutritious food. During the recent crisis, their food banks have increased their efforts, donating food to emergency warming shelters in major cities throughout the state.
To help Feeding Texas respond to this unprecedented disaster, RockItCoin donated $10,000 to the organization. “As a member of the Texas business community, RockItCoin wants to give back and help those in need during these difficult times,” our founder and CEO, Michael Dalesandro, stated. “Given the magnitude of what Texas is facing, it is critical we all pitch in however we can.”
Ben Phillips, president of RockItCoin, expanded, “Feeding Texas was a natural fit for us to address hunger with their existing statewide network that reaches communities both large and small. We wanted to help Texas across the board.”
The crisis came at a time when a record number of Texans were already in need of food assistance because of the COVID-19 pandemic. “But the need is even higher as we strive to help Texas families recover from the impact of the recent winter storms,” noted Feeding Texas’ CEO, Ceilia Cole. “We are grateful for RockItCoin’s support in helping Texas food banks keep their communities nourished through this crisis.”
Although the storm has passed, the problems it caused and brought to light will continue to affect the state in the coming weeks and months. We strongly encourage our readers with the means to do to help any way they can. The recent surge in the crypto markets, fueled in part by the ability to buy Bitcoin with a credit card, led to dramatic profits for countless investors and enthusiasts.
If you’ve been fortunate enough to realize some of these gains, consider making a donation to help feed the millions of Texans facing food insecurity. As our founder, Michael Dalesando puts it, “In times of crisis, we are all in this together.”
