Why Is RockItCoin Issuing Refunds?

In September 2023, the State of California passed a law limiting cryptocurrency kiosk transaction fees to the greater of:

  • $5, or
  • 15% of the transaction amount

This law took effect on January 1, 2025, and RockItCoin implemented a fee structure in accordance with the law.  However, in August 2025, the California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation (DFPI) notified RockItCoin that the Department used a different method for calculating the maximum allowable fee.  RockItCoin updated its methodology to match the Department’s methods as instructed.

Refund Information

On January 13, 2026, RockItCoin and the DFPI entered into a formal agreement (Consent Order) requiring RockItCoin to refund affected customers the difference between RockItCoin’s original fee calculation method and the DFPI’s calculation method.  Refund notifications and codes were emailed directly to the eligible customers.
