The Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Alex’s Place Fund is an extraordinary organization dedicated to providing unwavering support, resources, and care to pediatric, adolescent, and young adult cancer patients and their families. Inspired by the bravery of a young individual named Alex, who faced cancer with remarkable strength, Alex’s Place Fund is committed to enhancing the quality of life for young cancer patients and their loved ones. They create a supportive environment and offer essential programs and services that truly make a difference.
What sets this donation apart is the deeply personal connection one of our team members has with this cause. Matt Thomas, Operations Manager at RockItCoin, knows firsthand the profound impact of childhood cancer. His son, Jake, was diagnosed with cancer in 2018 and turned to Alex’s Place for treatment. After months of battling the disease, Jake completed his treatment in 2019 and has been in remission ever since.
Sarah Thomas, Jake’s mom, shared her gratitude, saying, “We are so thankful for Alex’s Place in Miami! We spent every Wednesday there for 7 months, and even though we have moved away, we have chosen to continue Jake’s post-treatment care there. From the minute we walked through the door, we felt like we were part of the family. The childhood cancer family is not something anyone wants to be a part of, but the amazing staff at Alex’s Place made the most difficult time of our lives a little easier. Jake’s nurses were so loving and kind, holding his hand during blood draws, playing games, and working floor puzzles with him, making him laugh when laughs were few and far between. They hosted several local nonprofits in the area who brought activities, toys, music, holiday parties, and treats for the kids to give them some semblance of normalcy.”
